A Colorful Garden in Australia
Located in Australia, Australian Bush Garden features native ornamental and food plants that attract local animals and provide year-round color. Its gardener Angus is a longtime gardener with some down-to-earth wisdom to share.
How did you become a gardener?
I have a long family history of plant people who inspired me from a young age. I think it was in my blood from birth!
What is your favorite plant?
The Passifloras generally because they have such intricately beautiful flowers and some have delicious fruit as an added bonus.
What's a favorite feature of your garden?
I have selected a range of bird-attracting Australian plants for my garden as their regular visits add a whole extra dimension to the garden.
What's your greatest challenge in gardening?
Having the good sense to pull out plants that are not working and giving alternative plants a go in their place.
What's your best tip for new gardeners?
Get into propagating your own plants as well as hunting out plants from other gardeners that are free.
As you build your collection of plants that you like you will learn which ones thrive in your garden environment and these can be used as a low maintenance backbone for the garden to which you can add experimental plants. Try and keep a consistent design theme based on those 'backbone' plants.
