Featured Garden: The Love of Flowers
A Vibrant Flower Garden in Napa, CA
Located in Northern California, The Love of Flowers is a vibrant backyard garden with a variety of beautiful flowers. A beautiful backyard retreat for those looking for some peace and serenity.
How did you become a gardener?
My passion from gardening came from my mom. I loved growing up to see what was flowering at each season – so my goal was to create a retreat for myself.
What is your favorite plant?
One favorite is my Tree Dalia, which I planted as an experimental in my backyard this year. From a 7" plant, it grew to 15 feet tall! Watching it grow was amazing, and seeing its pink and yellow blooms come forth in November was a real treat. It was the envy of my neighbors!
The other favorite is my Hydrangea - year after year with little work, they are must have plant to have in your garden. They have never disappointed me.
What's a favorite feature of your garden?
My most favorite is my patio where I can sit and watch all the wildlife come in my yard to enjoy my bird bath and feeder. This year I also put in some bird houses. We have a family of blue birds that hang around year after year, and I hope they will nest next year.
What's your greatest challenge in gardening?
My greatest challenge is drainage in my yard in winter.
What's your best tip for new gardeners?
Don't be afraid to try new plants! Your garden is your canvas, and you are a painter. If you plant something and it doesn't work, move it or replace it with something new.
The big key is is to know your soil and how much water it needs. My garden is always revolving.
