A Backyard Garden in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania

Featured Garden: Fats Green Garden

The Featured Garden series presents weekly editor's picks of gardens from YourGardenShow.com.

Located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Fats Green Garden is a backyard garden inspired by and in honor of Christine's grandparents.

How did you become a gardener?

I bought my grandparents home in 2006 after they both passed away. The backyard was mostly grass and a few mature trees. Over the years, I've planted perennials, evergreens and flowers. Soon after, I started a small summer vegetable garden where my grandfather had planted his garden years before. Thus the name Fats Green Garden, my grandfathers initials.

What is your favorite plant?

The Butterfly Bushes in my neighbors yard! They are large and branch out over into my yard. They are amazing and allow me to photograph those lovely butterflies!

What's a favorite feature of your garden?

My Vegetable Garden! There's nothing better than a tomato from your own backyard!

What's your greatest challenge in gardening?

Keeping the dog out of the flower beds!

What's your best tip for new gardeners?

COMPOST! Its great for your soil, easy to do and saves money.

Thank you for featuring Christine's garden! Love the heritage she is preserving by gardening in her grandfather's space. And what do you do about the dog in the garden?! I'd love ideas!
