A Bountiful Garden in Michigan
Laurie's Garden ~ St. Clair Shores, MI is a bountiful collection of flowers and veggies. Laurie's garden is an extension of her home enjoyed by her friends and family with a pond that has koi and goldfish.
How did you become a gardener?
The love & beauty of nature & being able to watch something grow & bloom. I love being creative & able to design something using texture, color & living things. My garden is an extended part of my home & enjoyed by friends & family. I find it very rewarding & relaxing.
What is your favorite plant?
It difficult to pick just one! My roses have special meaning to me. My hydrangeas are long lasting & versatile in arrangements. And I live for a delicious home grown tomato sun ripened & picked fresh from the vine.
What's a favorite feature of your garden?
My pond. It looks very cool & tranquil with shades of green & a lot of texture. My koi & goldfish are like living flowers! Of course my patio is an important feature for entertaining, relaxing & enjoying the view.
What's your greatest challenge in gardening?
The small size of my yard. It's difficult to add so many new varieties in a small space without being too crowded & messy. I also like to use arbors, containers & hanging baskets so I can grow "up"!
What's your best tip for new gardeners?
Don't get overwhelmed! Choose 2 or 3 easy to grow favorites. I started out with just roses, peonies & hostas.
