Editor's Choice Runners-Up - KCMS Victory Garden

This is the only vegetable-producing public school garden on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It is maintained by middle school students and serves the needs of low income children and families in the community. Established at Kent County Middle School in 2010 thanks to a Toolbox for Education grant from Lowe's and lots of community support, the garden helps young people learn about where their food comes from and how to make healthy food choices. KCMS is the ONLY Middle School in the county; there are about 450 students. During the school year, students tend the garden and produce is eaten at school or sent home.
