A Backyard Vegetable Garden in Pennsylvania

Featured Garden: Serenity Now
The Featured Garden series presents weekly editor's picks of gardens from YourGardenShow.com.

Located in rural Pennsylvania, Serenity Now is a backyard vegetable garden with a bounty of greens, berries and vegetables. The gardener Michelle is passionate about her plot and loves feeding her family with its harvest.

How did you become a gardener?

I loved gardening with my parents when I was little. Strawberry patches were my thing back then. Plus, I love snacking, and I think being able to walk through the yard and eat various species of fruits and vegetables is awesome!

What is your favorite plant?

Snap peas are my favorite. Here in Pennsylvania, I can grow two sets and eat them fresh into November.

What's a favorite feature of your garden?

My favorite feature is the herb garden next to our pond. It features most of the herbs that my husband and I use for cooking. We even trap ground hogs and rabbits for dinner. There's nothing like fresh rabbit with sage from the herb garden.

What's your greatest challenge in gardening?

My greatest challenge is time. There are so many other things to do, like preparing three meals a day, laundry, car maintenance, bills, cleaning the house... you know, things that have to be done. But I have a hard time coming inside when I could be gardening!

What's your best tip for new gardeners?

Get out and do it! Don't let anything stop you from trying. Keep trying different things, species, areas.

Thanks to Michelle for sharing with us! To follow this garden and learn more, visit its glog at Serenity Now.
