Featured Garden: The Water Mill

An Experimental Garden in Northern France

Featured Garden: The Water Mill
The Featured Garden series presents weekly editor's picks of gardens from YourGardenShow.com.

Located in Northern France, The Water Mill is a beautiful experimental garden that features an orchard, flower court and wetland. The gardener Marco is relatively new to gardening, but has a blossoming passion for his outdoor space.

How did you become a gardener?

I've always been fascinated by nature. As a child I already kept plants in my bedroom and maintained a little green house next to my dad's.

What is your favorite plant?

There are too many extremely beautiful plants, trees and flowers. From delicate Narcissuses to multicolored Irises... Impossible to name just one!

What's a favorite feature of your garden?

I like the set up of my garden in three zones. You can walk from the orchard right into the courted flower garden and onto the wild meadow with wild day lilies. It makes it spacious and a place for every mood.

What's your greatest challenge in gardening?

Weeds - what else!

What's your best tip for new gardeners?

I always start with a drawing – but much better advice is Hendrik's: "Check on the neighbors before buying plants that are alien to that area. It'll make you buy new plants every year."

Thanks to Marco for sharing with us! To follow this garden and learn more, visit its glog at The Water Mill.
